Hummus in the Vita-Mix

4 cups chickpeas (it is easy and affordable to make your own- save 1 cup of the cooking liquid)- or 2 cans

1/4 cup raw sesame seeds

2 tablespoons olive oil

1/4 cup lemon juice

1 garlic clove, peeled

1 teaspoon cumin

salt – to taste

Optional additions:

-fresh basil


-sundried tomatoes

-roasted red peppers

-sage and lemon zest

Be creative!


Place allĀ ingredientsĀ in the Vita-Mix. Begin with Variable speed 1 then increase to speed 10 and then to High. You will need to use the tamper to mash things around. Blend for 1-2 minutes. Season to taste with salt. Store in the fridge in a glass container and top with a bit of olive oil to prevent drying out.

Serve with raw veggies, roasted beets, apples, bread, crackers, or on sandwiches or add to a salad dressing.

If you don’t have a Vita-Mix BUY ONE!! If not, a food processor would work nicely.
